The 2025-26 admission process for nursery, pre-primary, and Class 1 will begin on November 28. Schools will release their criteria based on a points system by November 25, as announced by the Directorate of Education (DoE).
The Application Process
Parents can apply both online through the school’s website or offline directly at the school starting from November 28. The last day to apply is December 20.
Admission Selection
The points system varies by school but generally considers factors like:
- Distance from the school: Many schools prioritize proximity, assigning high points for students living nearby.
- Siblings in the school: Extra points if an older sibling is enrolled.
- Alumni connections: Some points may also be given if a family member is an alumnus.
If multiple students qualify for the same seat, a lottery system will be used. The lottery will be conducted transparently, often in the presence of parents, and will be recorded on video.
Reserved Seats
Each school reserves 25% of seats for specific groups:
- Economically Weaker Section (EWS)
- Children with disabilities
- Disadvantaged groups (DG)
These reserved seats will be filled through a computerized lottery. The schedule for this lottery will be announced later.
Age Limit for Admission
The DoE has set age limits as follows:
- Nursery: Up to 4 years as of March 31, 2025
- Kindergarten: Up to 5 years as of March 31, 2025
- Class 1: Up to 6 years as of March 31, 2025
Prohibited Criteria
Schools are advised against including any criteria related to:
- Parents’ education level
- Both parents’ employment status
- Food habits, cultural background, or similar criteria
These were scrapped by the Delhi government in 2016 to ensure fair access for all applicants.
Make a note of these key dates to ensure a smooth start to your child’s academic journey in 2025!
