Lord Krishna is known to be the most mischievous of gods, which is why he is a favourite with children. Tales of his antics, especially related to stealing butter and playing pranks on gopis, are plentiful and appeal to both kids and adults alike.
It is therefore no surprise that Lord Krishna's birthday, known as Janmashtami, is celebrated as a significant festival in India. Janmashtami means ‘birth on the 8th day’ and is celebrated on the 8th day of the dark fortnight in Bahrapada, in August/September. The number eight also has another meaning since Lord Krishna was the 8th child of his parents.
This year, Janmashtami is on Thursday, 7th September.
One of the highlights of Janmashtami, particularly for children, is the re-enactment of the playful activities that Lord Krishna indulged in. Over the years, a number of workshops and events have begun to be organised across Delhi and NCR. These not only provide a platform for children to engage in a number of fun activities but also aim to instill the values that Lord Krishna embodied.
Children take great pleasure in dressing up in colourful clothes like Radha and Krishna, immersing themselves in the enchanting world of the divine couple. Adorned with intricate jewelry and delicate accessories, the little Radhas and Krishnas bring to life the divine love story through their playful gestures and mischievous smiles.
These workshops are also an excellent way for the children to learn valuable lessons about love, compassion, and unity, things that Lord Krishna stood for. Through storytelling sessions and interactive discussions, the children are taught the importance of nurturing relationships, just as Lord Krishna cherished the love of his devotees.
During these workshops, children immerse themselves in an array of delightful activities, such as making beautiful handis, decorating flutes, creating the peacock headgear that Lord Krishna always adorns, as well as things like clay modelling and music and dance.
So check out these upcoming Janmashtami workshops in Delhi-NCR which shall provide your children with a fun-filled experience of the festival.
